Seaeye Panther

Seaeye Panther ROV Systems are depth rated
to 1500 metres and were the first of a new generation of electric
powered work ROVs. A Panther is able to carry out many of
the tasks previously carried our by conventional hydraulic
powered work vehicles that are larger, heavier and invariably
more costly.
Powered by four vectored and two vertical SM5
brushless DC thrusters, the Panther is the ideal vehicle for
Survey operations, for which it is fully interfaced, or for
drill support in the offshore oil and gas industry. For operations
in stronger currents where greater thrust is required, Seaeye
offer the Panther Plus with an additional 4 vectored SM5 thrusters.

tilt cameras
The remarkably low weight of this powerful ROV
has been achieved by the extensive use of plastics and composite
materials including two carbon fibre electronics pods and
a Seaeye obsession for maximising the power to weight ratio
of their vehicles.
A basic ROV system comprises the Vehicle, a
Surface Control Unit, a Hand Controller and a Power Supply
Unit. The surface unit and PSU can be supplied free standing
or containerised. The Control Container can be Zone
II rated or rated for safe area operations and can be air
conditioned.
Although free swimming operations are possible
with up to 600 metres of tether this ROV is normally deployed
using a Seaeye Panther Tether Management System (TMS)
to minimise the effect of current on the vehicle's performance.
The TMS is a garage with a bale arm and 150 metre capacity
of tether.

CCC Underwater Engineering's Panther and TMS system
A skid mounted 'A' frame and lifting winch with
1600 metres of armoured lift umbilical is offered as a compact
combined unit to launch and recover a TMS garaged Seaeye Panther.
This can be offered rated for hazardous area Zone II operations
or for 'safe area' operations and is known as a 'LARS'
or Launch and Recovery System. Alternatively you may have
your own crane available and may only require the lifting
winch and armoured umbilical with an umbilical sheave and
a lock-latch release mechanism and vehicle bullet for launch
and recovery.

Propulsion
All Seaeye ROVs feature brushless DC thrusters, which, apart
from having the greatest power density, have integrated
drive electronics with velocity feedback for precise and
rapid thrust control. These thrusters are interfaced to
a fast PID control system along with a solid-state rate
gyro for enhanced azimuth stability. These essential building
blocks enable Saab Seaeye to provide superior control
and response from their powerful ROVs, setting them apart
from the competition.
The Panther has 4 vectored and 2 vertical SM5
brushless DC thrusters.
Chassis
A 100% modular chassis manufactured in polypropylene. The
extremely rugged chassis is totally maintenance free, non
corroding and self supporting in seawater. Additional equipment
can be bolted directly to chassis members.

Panther Chassis
Aluminium Pressure Housings
Machined from 6082 marine grade aluminium and hard anodised
in black.
Connectors
SEAEYE range of 316 stainless steel connectors are generally
used throughout.
Buoyancy
Two pods fabricated with high grade carbon fibre composite
materials provide most of the buoyancy and payload for this
ROV. The vehicle electronics are mounted within one of these
pods, the other is empty providing a large volume for additional
equipment. Water ingress and vacuum alarms are fitted. Small
sections of syntactic foam are added to balance the vehicle
trim.
Control System
16 bit digital system providing easy interfacing to ancillary
equipment by the operator. The SEAEYE comprehensive video
overlay is fitted as standard providing digital and analogue
compass rose, tilt icon, date time group, depth (metric or
imperial), CP value ,pre-titled and free text pages. Vehicle
data may be exported to clients Survey or Navigation computer
systems via the SEAEYE Telemetry Interface Unit in conjunction
with a PC.
Navigation
Sensitive flux-gate compass unit with solid state rate
sensor for enhanced azimuth stability.

Auto-pilot
Full automatic pilot is provided for depth and heading.
Pan & Tilt System
SEAEYE Pan & Tilt unit with positional feedback (displayed
on the video overlay) is fitted as standard. Click
here for more detailed information.
Lighting
Two separately controlled lighting channels. Each channel
has two separately fused SEAEYE 150W lamp units. Lamp units
can be distributed individually to suit local operating conditions.
Video System
Four simultaneous video channels are provided. Transmission
to the surface is via two dual fibre-optic transmitters and
two fibre optic cores. Two dual fibre-optic de-multiplexers
are situated in the Surface Junction Box (supplied) in the
ROV control cabin. Two 14 inch colour monitors are provided
as standard.
Surface Control Unit
Contains all surface vehicle control electronics, TMS control
(if option fitted) and surface outlets for ancillary equipment.
This unit is 19" rack mountable and is supplied in its own
case.

Tether Management System
Rugged all steel, side entry system using tether cable bailing
arm technique (eliminates underwater sliprings). The vehicle
is secured within the T.M.S. by a hydrostatic device for launch
and recovery. The vehicle can be easily manoeuvred into the
T.M.S. either forwards or backwards. Tether cable capacity
is 150 metres.
